Child (12) and 18-year-old arrested over alleged racially motivated attack in Belfast

The two young people were arrested on suspicion of riotous behaviour.

TWO PEOPLE, AGED 12 and 18 years old, have been arrested following an alleged racially motivated attack on a property and its resident in south Belfast last night.

Police were called to the scene on Donegal Avenue, Belfast, Co Antrim at 12.40am after a property came under attack, injuring the residents inside.

The two young people, both male, were arrested on suspicion of riotous behaviour and remain in police custody.

The 12-year-old is due to appear in court on 22 September and the 18-year-old will come before the courts on 25 September, the PSNI said.

South Belfast District Commander Superintendent Finola Dornan has said the ages of those accused of being involved are concerning.

She added that “racist intimidation and targeting is completely unacceptable”.

Enquiries into the incident remain ongoing and police are seeking anyone with camera footage from nearby to contact investigators on 101 quoting reference 30 28/08/25.

Alternatively, the public can submit a report online or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
